Porch Fly Clothing has partnered with Botanical PaperWorks to deliver a biodegradable plantable eco-paper that is made with post-consumer materials embedded with BASIL seeds. When you plant our tags in a pot of soil, the tag will grow into savory Basil!
You know what’s even more awesome? Its production requires NO trees and when planted it leaves NO waste. It’s really easy to plant and grow - we’ll show you how below:
How To Plant Porch Fly Hang Tags
You’re going to need:
- A small pot for planting
- Good potting soil
- 1 Porch Fly hang tag
- A sunny corner inside or on the porch
STEP 1 - PREPARE YOUR POT
Fill your pot 2/3 full with good potting soil. Tamp down the soil and add more if necessary. You want the pot to be firmly full, but not packed. The tag can be planted indoors or outside, so you get to choose according to the temperature and conditions at the time of planting (make sure the temperature is mild)
STEP 2 - PLANT THE PAPER
Take your hangtag and cover the soil in the prepared pot with the paper. It's okay if the tag overlaps. Spread a 1/8 to 1/4 inch layer of soil over the hangtag pieces and tamp down gently.
STEP 3 - WATER DURING GERMINATION
After planting the paper in your pot, give it a good soak. You want the paper and the soil to be nicely damp but not swimming in water. During the first 10 days, keep the paper moist at all times. The water is necessary for germination.
STEP 4 - CARE AFTER GERMINATION
Once sprouts appear, continue to keep the paper moist but be careful not to overwater. Once sturdy plants appear, water as needed.
STEP 5 - ENJOY THE HERBS
You've done it! In order to keep your basil plant producing more leaves, prune branches back to the first two leaves after 6-8 leaves have grown on them. You can use these leaves in a number of ways like cooking, tea, and cocktails!
